MAY 25 HSMC COVID-19 UPDATE

As we enter the summer season, it seemed like a good time to give you an update on our activities.

First, a huge “Thank You!” to all of you who have provided extra support during this difficult time. Your thoughtfulness has taken some of the sting out of having to be closed for this prolonged period. Also, many of your donations included a “Thanks” to our shelter staff and these kind words are greatly appreciated. As we begin to test the waters of reopening, please remember that your continued support is a huge help in our efforts.

Second, we plan to reopen the shelter on June 3 with normal hours. We will be doing all activities BY APPOINTMENT ONLY and MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED. At this time, we plan to do only adoptions and intakes. We appreciate all of you who love to spend time with the cats but we believe it is best for all if we don’t begin allowing that now. If you are interested in adopting, we encourage you to check out the website and see who is looking for a forever home. Then you can fill out an adoption form (available to download on the adoptions page or you can request one be mailed to you) prior to making an appointment. Once you are at the shelter, we hope you adopt the cat you saw on the website but there in no obligation. But we do ask that you only make an adoption appointment if you are seriously interested in adopting. Intake will function off a waiting list as always but we will assign you a time to make the drop-off rather than just a general time frame. We think these procedures will allow us to begin operations in a safe manner but if issues arise we may make changes.

Third, the Second Time Around store will remain closed. Most of our volunteers are older and it is impossible to control the flow of shoppers in the store so, in the interest of safety, we are taking the more restrictive course.

Thanks again to all of you for your support and understanding. The shelter is full of loving adoptable cats who need a home. And each adoption allows us to take in another cat needing our help. By working together, we will move forward in a safe and measured manner.
