How Do I Adopt?
Once you have found an animal you are interested in you will fill out our adoption application. Applications take 24-48 hours to process for everyone. We will only take one application at a time. While we are processing the application we will hold the animal you are interested in. For that reason please be sure you:
Check with your landlord about the pet policy. Often we will work on an application for a day or two only to find the person applying is not allowed pets. Because we only take one application at a time the animal may have missed out on a home while on "hold".
Make sure ALL members of the household are ready for a new addition.
Make sure all animals currently in the household have current vaccinations. This is important for both the new and current pets in the home.
Be sure you are financially prepared to care for an animal. Food, veterinary care, flea control, etc. adds up quickly!
Other important questions to ask yourself before you think about adopting a pet:
Are you moving in the next year? If so are you prepared to give up a place you may want to live in due to a restrictive pet policy? If you can't find a place that will allow your dog/cat what will you do?
Are you prepared to deal with the good and bad that come with owning an animal? . Cats scratch couches, eat plants, jump on counters. Please do not adopt an animal if you are not committed to working through their issues/bad habits.
Are you prepared to allow time (sometimes several months) for the animals you currently own to accept a new animal in your home? They do not always love each other right away!
PETS ADD FUN, COMPANIONSHIP AND LOVE TO OUR LIVES, BUT THEY ARE ALSO A BIG RESPONSIBILITY. CHOOSING TO ADD A PET TO YOUR FAMILY IS AN IMPORTANT DECISION. PLEASE BE CERTAIN YOU ARE READY FOR THE COMMITMENT BECAUSE FAILED ADOPTIONS ARE DIFFICULT FOR EVERYONE ESPECIALLY THE ANIMAL.
