How Do I Adopt?

Once you have found an animal you are interested in you will fill out our adoption application. Applications take 24-48 hours to process for everyone. We will only take one application at a time. While we are processing the application we will hold the animal you are interested in. For that reason please be sure you:

  • Check with your landlord about the pet policy. Often we will work on an application for a day or two only to find the person applying is not allowed pets. Because we only take one application at a time the animal may have missed out on a home while on "hold".

  • Make sure ALL members of the household are ready for a new addition.

  • Make sure all animals currently in the household have current vaccinations. This is important for both the new and current pets in the home.

  • Be sure you are financially prepared to care for an animal. Food, veterinary care, flea control, etc. adds up quickly!

Other important questions to ask yourself before you think about adopting a pet:

  • Are you moving in the next year? If so are you prepared to give up a place you may want to live in due to a restrictive pet policy? If you can't find a place that will allow your dog/cat what will you do?

  • Are you prepared to deal with the good and bad that come with owning an animal? . Cats scratch couches, eat plants, jump on counters. Please do not adopt an animal if you are not committed to working through their issues/bad habits.

  • Are you prepared to allow time (sometimes several months) for the animals you currently own to accept a new animal in your home? They do not always love each other right away!

PETS ADD FUN, COMPANIONSHIP AND LOVE TO OUR LIVES, BUT THEY ARE ALSO A BIG RESPONSIBILITY. CHOOSING TO ADD A PET TO YOUR FAMILY IS AN IMPORTANT DECISION. PLEASE BE CERTAIN YOU ARE READY FOR THE COMMITMENT BECAUSE FAILED ADOPTIONS ARE DIFFICULT FOR EVERYONE ESPECIALLY THE ANIMAL.
