​HSMC Shelter Volunteering

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with our shelter animals! Because the HSMC is a no kill shelter, some of our guests stay with us for months and sometimes even years. We depend on our volunteers to keep the animals happy and socialized while they are here. Cats have to be petted/handled daily! We are fortunate to have many dedicated people who spend time with the animals, for that reason we ask for volunteers to sign up in advance. 

Groups must be kept to 4 or fewer at a time. If you have a group that is interested in volunteering at the shelter, please give us a call at 540-382-1166.  

Volunteers of any age are welcome but, those under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent at all times.

Our shelter is open Wednesday and Thursday 11-5, Friday and Saturday 11-6, and Sunday 1-6.  

 Cats are available for cuddles anytime we are open.

schedule a time slot****

All volunteers must have a current volunteer application and liability release form on file with the HSMC. They are available at the shelter.​
