If you have an animal you need to place and are located in Montgomery County, VA, please call the shelter (do not email) during office hours at 540-382-1166 to list your pet on our waiting/referral list. All animals accepted into the shelter are from our waiting/referral list only – Immediate spaces are not available due to our "no kill" status and limited space within the shelter. We keep every space full year round and do not have kennels/cages open on a daily basis.  Every new kennel open goes to the next animal on the waiting list.

Note- HSMC cannot accept stray dogs. Please contact your local animal control for assistance with stray dogs.

While your pet is on the waiting list, with your permission we will also assist you in placing him/her with a new family by giving your number to potential adopters looking for a pet like yours. We will also post fliers in our lobby (we also suggest putting fliers in vet clinics, animal control, the news messenger, and community bulletin boards). You can email a flier to info@hsmcshelter.com  Until room for an animal becomes available, waiting list information helps us match animals with people who express an interest in adopting.

Note: The HSMC can only accept dogs and cats. We do not have the facilities to care for other types of animals.
