The HSMC Spay/Neuter Program







We are honored to announce that we recently received a $2500 grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA)! In these difficult economic times, this grant is a huge help in ensuring that we do as much as possible to prevent unwanted litters and pet overpopulation in our community.

Spaying/neutering your pets is an essential part of pet ownership. Since we know not everyone can readily afford this procedure, we offer a low-cost program to assist those who need a bit of help. The ASPCA grant will allow us to help many more animals and make the New River Valley a more pet friendly region.

Spaying and Neutering your pets is an essential part of pet ownership. The HSMC recognizes that not all pet owners are able to do this on their own. For this reason the HSMC runs a low-cost spay/neuter program to assist individuals in the community with this important responsibility. This is a need based program, but no one requesting help is turned down. We require all participants to fill out an application for financial assistance to help us determine how best to help everyone with our limited funds. The wait for assistance is usually 1-2 weeks.

The HSMC does not have clinic facilities in house. We coordinate surgeries through our local vet clinics. The cost of surgeries often depends on available appointments and the need of the individual applicant.
