Hi! My name
is Bear, and I live with my mom, Emily, in Radford, VA. I came to the
shelter when I was a little puppy, back in 1997. My mommy was working
there at the shelter, and I would try and try to get her attention, or
anyone’s attention! Over the next 2 years, I grew into a big shaggy,
lovey Beardog. I always prided myself on being one of the few dogs that
could flip a "no-tip" bowl in about 5 seconds. When it was
cold, mom or someone would come around and tell us to come inside the
building so they could close the door and it wouldn’t be so cold. No
way, man! Look at all my hair, I’ll be nice and warm! I wanted to stay
outside! Then they would walk around to the outside, grumbling, and
coerce me back through the door. A few licks on their faces could
usually cheer them back up, though! My mom started bringing me home on
weekends, so I could spend time with her. Then one day, in 1999, she
never brought me back to the shelter! It was finally my turn to be
someone’s most bestest doggie friend in the entire world. I’ve
learned lots of things, like sit, down, rollover, shake paw, speak…
and I’ve also learned that I REALLY do not like fireworks at ALL. They
are so scary! So I like to hide by my mom when the loud noises are
everywhere. I love playing with tennis balls, kongs and bones. Good
stuff! Mom take me with her everywhere she goes. Me and my mom. :) I am
9 years old now, and getting a nice frosty gray muzzle to show it. But
that hasn’t slowed me down yet… :)
A quick note from the mom:
Words cannot even express how
much I love this dog. Bear is snuggly, loving, attentive, smart and I
don’t know what I would ever do without him. So a huge, heartfelt
THANK YOU to the HSMC shelter, both for giving me a job for a few years,
and for bringing me and Bear together.
Sincerely,
Emily and Bear
